Almighty
Almighty
This morning I want to share with you the name Almighty in the Bible.
The Hebrew word Shadday occurs 48 times in the Hebrew Bible of which 31 times in the Book of Job.
This is a name for the Lord who the OT people of faith knew Him as El Shaddai, God Almighty.
The LORD appeared to Abram at age 99 and said to him, “I am Almighty God, walk before Me and be blameless.” Genesis 17:1 NKJV
Isaac in blessing his son Jacob blessed saying, “May God Almighty bless you, And make you fruitful and multiply you, That you may be
an assembly of peoples.” Genesis 28:1,3 NKJV
Jacob after his stay in Padan Aram went to Bethel and God appeared to Jacob and changed his name to Israel. God said to him: “I am God
Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body.”
Genesis 35:9-11
Joseph (Genesis 48:3), Ezekiel the prophet (Ezekiel 10:5), Joel (Joel 1:15), Isaiah (Isaiah 13:3) knew the Lord as God Almighty.
Christ the Son of God from the beginning has been actively involved with man before sin and after the fall of man.
It was with unbelief and surprise that the Jews heard Jesus say, “Most assuredly I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” John 8:58 NKJV
As we search the Scriptures we is clear Jesus Christ is found both in the OT and NT scriptures.
I would like to introduce you another name for the Son of God as the LORD. As is Israel was waking up to the reality of a soon freedom from Egyptian bondage God spoke to Moses and said to him: “I am the LORD.”
“I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty, but by my name LORD I was not know to them.” Exodus 6:2-3 NKJV
Like Israel of old, we too can know Christ Jesus as LORD of our lives.
He came to reveal the Father and Himself so man could know God and have eternal life. John 17:3
